Teaching natural sciences: from yesterday to tomorrow
Since more than a century, teaching natural sciences in primary and secondary schools has developed on a fairly stable learning program : to transmit to all students some ideas of scientific facts, and to prepare with more elaborate knowledge a small fraction of them to higher and specialized science education. Today, profound changes affect the availability of information, becoming omnipresent and of easy access. The teacher role must deeply evolve, being less focused on transmission of facts and more on understanding science, as a knowledge process. A new balance between learning and understanding must be found in science education.
